For a non-Canadian it was an awesome experience. Beautiful cabins in the woods (need to walk a bit to reach them right!), amazing views, nicely arranged, and tonnes of attractions: hiking, kayaking, swimming… Very nice staff too.

This trip shows off the truly beautiful North Channel of the French River. We leave the Lodge, paddling down Wolseley Bay to the point where it meets the North Channel.
Sticking close to shore, we paddle the inside passage exploring several small bays and inlets. When the wind picks up on this route, you will better understand the conditions experienced by the Voyageurs who travelled the French River in the 17th century.
About ninety minutes into the trip, we stop for drinks and hearty appetisers. There are great warm rocks at this spot, so wear a swimsuit and take a refreshing dip. In the autumn, we visit a cranberry bog and wind permitting, we check out one of the oldest and largest beaver dams on the French River.
We have a short portage (canoes and kayaks can be pulled rather than carried) before we return to the Lodge after completing a scenic loop. (At least four paddlers are needed for this trip to take place.)

The naturalist in me was delighted with the sight of, a varying (snowshoe) hare leaping through the bush, ruffed grouse strutting and the sound of their drumming, wood frogs all along pond sides, an early painted turtle hauled out on a log, and bear paw-prints in the sand.

We spent our time kayaking, canoeing, hiking, playing cards, Pool, fishing, and for me…enjoying wine on our porch at sunset 🙂

Activities run to swimming, hiking, boating, water taxi trips to great destinations on the French River, and all manner of quiet and personal activities. How about soaking in a large copper bathtub with a view of the water…….
