The French River, was a larder for millennia, for the First Nations peoples that fished its rich waters.

Today, sport fishing is one of the French River’s main activities and attracts fishers for; muskellunge, northern pike, walleye (or pickerel as it is known in Canada), large and small mouth bass and other varieties of fresh water fish. Ask us about hiring a guide, bring your own boat or rent one from us.

For the serious fisher there are many opportunities on the French River. If you have never fished these waters, we strongly recommend the use of a guide for the first day or two. For muskie fishers, the French River is one of the places in North America to expect really big fish. Fly fishing is also practised by some fishers, looking for small mouth bass and other species. Lodge at Pine Cove, has a boat launch for our guests but please check with us before bringing your boat, as water levels will determine how much clearance there is under our bridge. Not enough clearance? Don’t worry, we have an alternate launch recommendation close by. Note – always make sure you have a Mepps 3 lure in your tackle box – silver (no sun) and gold (sunny).
