For a non-Canadian it was an awesome experience. Beautiful cabins in the woods (need to walk a bit to reach them right!), amazing views, nicely arranged, and tonnes of attractions: hiking, kayaking, swimming… Very nice staff too.

Non Guided
For centuries the French River was one of the worlds great exploration and trade routes.
Canoes plied its waters in search of beaver pelts, to export to Europe. Today you can canoe those waters from the Lodge at Pine Cove. Explore flat water, rapids, bays and wonderful places to stop and eat a gourmet picnic from the lodge’s kitchen.
As a canoeing venue the French River is hard to beat. Flat water, whitewater, islands, bays, channels and little development. Novices and experts all canoe the French River. The scenery is beautiful. There are countless destinations for picnics and swimming. The water is warm for a great part of the season. Lodge at Pine Cove has 16 foot Nova Craft Prospector canoes, which are ideal for the French River. Easy to paddle on flat water, they are also good whitewater boats. We can create a guided trip, plan a non-guided trip and water taxi you to places that are too far to reach for day paddling. Jump in a canoe and discover the French River.

The naturalist in me was delighted with the sight of, a varying (snowshoe) hare leaping through the bush, ruffed grouse strutting and the sound of their drumming, wood frogs all along pond sides, an early painted turtle hauled out on a log, and bear paw-prints in the sand.

We spent our time kayaking, canoeing, hiking, playing cards, Pool, fishing, and for me…enjoying wine on our porch at sunset 🙂

Activities run to swimming, hiking, boating, water taxi trips to great destinations on the French River, and all manner of quiet and personal activities. How about soaking in a large copper bathtub with a view of the water…….
