From about mid-June, depending on the year and sometimes by the end of May, the French River warms up to allow you to swim without feeling cold. By early July the water is usually about 23c – 24c (71F – 72F).
The places to swim on the river are countless. Ask us and we will point you in the right direction for a plunge at the lodge or out on the French River.
The main dock has a swim ladder and Muskoka chairs. In the cove there is swim raft. Access is either off the shore, if you are in a cove cottage, or off the little dock by the boat launch. Alternatively, take a canoe or kayak out to the swim dock. Various places along the shoreline are great for swimming, as long as you are okay with a smooth rock exit. If you are staying in MAGL, Simpson or Kane cottages there is a small trail that leads down to the water and access to the water is good. There are two Muskoka chairs here for you to sit on when you get out. Off the little beach, by the lodge there is a shallow entry.
What our visitors think
Activities run to swimming, hiking, boating, water taxi trips to great destinations on the French River, and all manner of quiet and personal activities. How about soaking in a large copper bathtub with a view of the water…….

We spent our time kayaking, canoeing, hiking, playing cards, Pool, fishing, and for me…enjoying wine on our porch at sunset 🙂

The naturalist in me was delighted with the sight of, a varying (snowshoe) hare leaping through the bush, ruffed grouse strutting and the sound of their drumming, wood frogs all along pond sides, an early painted turtle hauled out on a log, and bear paw-prints in the sand.

For a non-Canadian it was an awesome experience. Beautiful cabins in the woods (need to walk a bit to reach them right!), amazing views, nicely arranged, and tonnes of attractions: hiking, kayaking, swimming… Very nice staff too.
