Wild Fruit and Mushroom gathering
Blueberries
The French River is known for its blueberries. From late June to early August – it depends on the season – blueberries grow in profusion. Ask at the front desk for a pot to put them in. Delicious and rich in antioxidants.
Cranberry Picking
A wild cranberry bog awaits you. Real honest to goodness cranberries, indigenous to the region, grow here. We take our Montreal canoe with 20 guests and go picking at Canadian Thanksgiving. The chef will make sauces from your bounty.
Mushrooming
Now that must be a verb, as so many people love mushrooms. The French River, under the right conditions of warm and dry, followed by rain, produces many varieties of mushrooms. Just make sure you know your Mushrooms or you could be courting trouble.
What our visitors think
For a non-Canadian it was an awesome experience. Beautiful cabins in the woods (need to walk a bit to reach them right!), amazing views, nicely arranged, and tonnes of attractions: hiking, kayaking, swimming… Very nice staff too.

The naturalist in me was delighted with the sight of, a varying (snowshoe) hare leaping through the bush, ruffed grouse strutting and the sound of their drumming, wood frogs all along pond sides, an early painted turtle hauled out on a log, and bear paw-prints in the sand.
Ian Keith A, Canada
We spent our time kayaking, canoeing, hiking, playing cards, Pool, fishing, and for me…enjoying wine on our porch at sunset 🙂
Talschouts, Canada
Activities run to swimming, hiking, boating, water taxi trips to great destinations on the French River, and all manner of quiet and personal activities. How about soaking in a large copper bathtub with a view of the water…….
